How to Refund Japan Rail Pass: Physical Voucher & E-Voucher Guide

How do I cancel my Japan Rail Pass and request a refund?

The refund process for your Japan Rail Pass depends on whether you were issued a physical Exchange Order (Voucher) or a digital E-voucher. Please follow the specific instructions for your ticket type below.

1. For Physical Exchange Orders (Paper Vouchers)

If you received a physical green paper voucher, we must receive the ORIGINAL document back at our office to process your refund.

  • How to Return: You may return the voucher by mail or by dropping it off in person at our Richmond office during business hours.
  • Mailing Address:
JTB International (Canada) Ltd. / Attn: JR Pass refund
    8899 Odlin Crescent, Richmond, BC, V6X 3Z7
  • Postage: Customers are responsible for all return shipping costs. We highly recommend using a trackable mailing service. JTB Canada is not responsible for vouchers lost in the mail, and we cannot issue a refund without the physical original.

2. For E-vouchers (Digital Regional Passes)

If your pass was issued as a digital E-voucher (QR code or PDF), the process is handled entirely online.

  • How to Request: Please reply directly to your original booking confirmation email to request a cancellation.
  • Verification: Our team will verify your pass status in the JR system. We can only process a refund if the status is confirmed as "un-exchanged" (unused).
  • No Return Needed: Since there is no physical document, you do not need to mail anything to our office.

Important Refund Terms (Applicable to All Types)

  • Deadline: Refund requests must be made within one year from the date of issue.
  • Cancellation Fee: A cancellation penalty will apply to all refunds. Please refer to your original confirmation email for the specific fee details.
  • Method: Refunds are issued back to the original payment method. Once processed, you will receive an automated notification of the credit card transaction via email.
